Hadith 677

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to frequently make this supplication: "O Allah! Grant us goodness in this world and goodness in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Fire." Shu’bah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I mentioned this to Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him), and he said: Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to recite this supplication, but he did not narrate it as a marfu’ (directly attributed to the Prophet).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
In this world, “hasanah” refers to every good thing that is necessary for a pleasant and honorable life, such as wealth, health and well-being, and a beautiful and virtuous wife, etc. Similarly, every blessing of the Hereafter, such as reward and the mercy of Allah Ta’ala, etc.
“Save (us) from the punishment of the Fire” means: protect (us) from those deeds that become a cause for the Fire and lead to entering Hell. Also, this narration is authentically established as marfu‘ (attributed to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). It is evident that at times the narrator did not mention its being marfu‘.
