It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say: "O Allah! Purify me with snow, hail, and cold water, just as a dirty garment is cleansed of filth." Then he would say: "O Allah! O our Lord! All praise is for You, as much as fills the heavens and as much as fills the earth, and as much as fills whatever else You will after that."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullah was asked: Here, supplication is made for cleansing with snow and hail, whereas cleaning is better achieved with hot water? He replied that sins have three kinds of effects upon the heart: (1) heat, (2) impurity, (3) weakness and feebleness. It is as if sins are like those pieces of wood that fuel a fire. The more the sins, the more the fire of the heart blazes. Water removes filth and extinguishes fire, and if the water is cold, the body becomes stronger and gains strength from it. And if it is snow and hail, then it is a cause of even greater strength and is more effective in removing the effects of sins.
