Hadith 674

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to supplicate with these words: «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى» "O Allah! I ask You for guidance, chastity, and wealth." Our companions have reported through the way of Amr «وَالتقَى» the addition: "and I ask for piety."

Benefits and Issues:
In this hadith, the mention is made of goodness in this world and the Hereafter. It includes the supplication for noble character and livelihood, as well as for piety and God-consciousness (taqwa). By chastity is meant not only abstaining from worldly greed and avarice, but also refraining from other sins.
