Hadith 659

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you supplicate to Allah, do so with firm resolve, and none of you should ever say: O Allah! If You will, grant it to me, for surely, there is no one who can compel Allah."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
The manner of supplication (dua) should be such that the servant expresses his utter helplessness and dire need, while the independence and sovereignty of Allah Ta'ala are manifested. "There is none who can compel Allah Ta'ala" means that if a supplicant speaks with certainty, no one will misunderstand that compulsion is being exercised upon Allah. For no one can ever compel Him. Therefore, making supplication in a firm manner will only be understood as the intense neediness of the supplicant.
