Benefits and Issues: ➊ Supplication (du'a) is worship. Allah the Exalted says: ﴿اِِنَّالَّذِیْنَیَسْتَکْبِرُوْنَعَنْعِبَادَتِیسَیَدْخُلُوْنَجَهَنَّمَدَاخِرِیْنَ﴾ (: Al-Mu’min: 60) “Indeed, those who are arrogant regarding My worship will soon enter Hell, humiliated.” The commentators (mufassirun) have interpreted “worship” here to mean supplication (du'a), because in the first part of the verse Allah the Exalted commands supplicating to Him. From this it is understood that the more one asks from Allah the Exalted, the more pleased He becomes; therefore, not a single day of a person’s life should pass without supplication. ➋ When one does not ask, Allah the Exalted becomes displeased for two reasons: firstly, because this servant is heedless of Allah’s worship; and secondly, because not asking from Allah the Exalted is not free from two conditions—either the person is arrogant, considering himself self-sufficient, or he is despairing of Allah the Exalted. Both of these are causes of Allah’s wrath.
