It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Seek refuge with Allah from the Hellfire, seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave. Seek Allah's protection from the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal), and seek Allah's protection from the trials of life and death."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ After death, a person is shown his abode. Therefore, one should seek refuge from an evil abode, that is, Hell, because it is a most evil abode. ➋ The first stage of the Hereafter is the grave. If one is successful in this, the subsequent stages will become easy. Therefore, one should seek Allah’s refuge from the punishment of the grave. ➌ The Masih Dajjal refers to a one-eyed person whose eye will be swollen like a grape. He will claim divinity and will travel around the entire world. Allah, the Exalted, will grant him the ability to perform extraordinary feats. He will put people into trial so that they will accept him as their deity, and thus they will become fuel for Hell. Therefore, one should seek Allah’s refuge from his trial. ➍ The trial of life is that a person becomes entangled in the world and forgets the Hereafter; that some disease or contagious illness afflicts him; that he has many dependents and a lack of resources, and he forgets the real purpose of life. All these are trials of life. Not being granted the ability to recite the testimony of faith (kalimah) at the time of death, dying upon disbelief or hypocrisy, the severity of questioning in the grave, and the punishment of the grave are all trials of death, from which one should seek Allah’s refuge.
