Hadith 646

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ascended the pulpit, he said: "Ameen, Ameen, Ameen." It was asked of him: O Messenger of Allah! Previously you did not do this? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Jibreel (peace be upon him) said to me: May the nose of that person be soiled with dust who found his parents, or one of them, and yet did not enter Paradise. I said Ameen to this. Then he said: May the nose of that person also be soiled with dust who found Ramadan and was not forgiven, so I said Ameen. Then he said: That person is also humiliated before whom your name is mentioned and he does not send blessings upon you. I said: Ameen."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ It is obligatory upon every Muslim to send blessings (salat) upon the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. By doing so, Allah becomes pleased, and on the Day of Resurrection, one will attain closeness to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. The more a person sends blessings, the greater his closeness to you (the Prophet) will be.

➋ Remember, sending blessings (salat) is an act of worship, and for this it is necessary to act upon your (the Prophet’s) instructions. The first requirement of love and devotion towards you is to follow your commands; otherwise, even sending blessings will not be of benefit. Conformity between speech and action is extremely important and essential.

➌ When the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is mentioned in the presence of someone, he should send blessings upon hearing your name. However, during the call to prayer (adhan), one should say it exactly as you have taught. In one narration, the person who does not send blessings upon hearing your name has been called the most miserly of people.
