Hadith 641

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، مَوْلَى سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَنْظَلَةُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : ”مَنْ قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَتَرَحَّمْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا تَرَحَّمْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، شَهِدْتُ لَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِالشَّهَادَةِ ، وَشَفَعْتُ لَهُ.“
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever says: O Allah, send mercy upon Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the family of Muhammad, just as You sent mercy upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and the family of Ibrahim, and send blessings upon Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the family of Muhammad, just as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and the family of Ibrahim. And have mercy on Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the family of Muhammad, just as You had mercy on Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and the family of Ibrahim, then I will bear witness for him and intercede for him on the Day of Resurrection.”

Benefits and Issues:
The chain of narration of this report is weak; however, in authentic hadiths, the method for attaining intercession is mentioned: after the call to prayer (adhan), recite the Ibrahimic salutation (salat al-Ibrahimiyya), then recite the supplication "Allahumma Rabba hadhihi al-da‘wah...". If this is done, the intercession of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam will become obligatory for the servant.
