It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “The one who severs the ties of kinship will not enter Paradise.”

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ Jubayr bin Mut'im radi Allahu anhu was counted among the chiefs of the Quraysh, and people used to have their disputes settled by him. He came to Madinah Tayyibah regarding the prisoners of the Battle of Badr, and when he heard the recitation of Surah At-Tur, a desire for faith arose in his heart. He then accepted Islam after Khaybar. Regarding his father, Mut'im bin Adi, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said at the occasion of Badr: "If Mut'im bin Adi were alive today and interceded with me regarding these foul-smelling captives, I would have released them for his sake." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith: 4024)

➋ If one who severs the ties of kinship (qat‘ al-rahm) dies in that state, he will not enter Paradise. However, if he repents from this sin, then Allah is capable of forgiving him. From this, the seriousness of the crime of severing kinship ties is also understood. The belief of the Salaf Salihin and the hadith scholars is that, apart from shirk (associating partners with Allah) and kufr (disbelief), any sin can be forgiven through repentance, provided that the conditions of repentance are fulfilled. Otherwise, if Allah wills, He will punish, and if He wills, He will forgive by His grace, but ultimately, such a person will certainly enter Paradise. In the Noble Qur'an it is stated:

"Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating partners with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills." (An-Nisa: 116)

From the hadith of intercession (shafa‘ah), it is understood that even a person with an atom's weight of faith will eventually be taken out of Hell. Therefore, regarding the hadith under discussion, it should be said that if Allah does not forgive him, he will not enter Paradise in the first stage. However, due to his faith, he will eventually be taken out from there.
