Hadith 632

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْيَمَانِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ حُرَيْثٍ ، يَقُولُ : ذَهَبَتْ بِي أُمِّي إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَمَسَحَ عَلَى رَأْسِي ، وَدَعَا لِي بِالرِّزْقِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Huraith (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that my mother took me to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed his hand over my head and prayed for my sustenance.

Benefits and Issues:
From this, it is understood that it is permissible to ask a pious elder to supplicate (make du'a) for children, and it is also permissible to go to someone for this purpose. Furthermore, scholars should, if a small child comes to them, place a hand of affection on his head and supplicate (make du'a) for him.
