It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: We used to count in one gathering of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he would recite this supplication one hundred times: «رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ» "O my Lord! Forgive me and accept my repentance, surely You are the Most Accepting of repentance, Most Merciful."
Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
➊ A servant’s seeking forgiveness (istighfar) is greatly beloved to Allah, the Exalted. Allah boasts to His angels about His servants’ seeking forgiveness; therefore, a person should constantly seek pardon from Allah, the Exalted.
➋ The Prophets (alayhim as-salam) are infallible (ma‘sum), and Allah, the Exalted, has especially forgiven the past and future shortcomings of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Despite this, his frequent seeking of forgiveness is an expression of servitude (‘ubudiyyah) and an acknowledgment of humility and submissiveness. Moreover, it serves as an encouragement for the Ummah.
