Hadith 614

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Tufail bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Would you like to reside in the fortress and protection of the tribe of Daws?" The narrator says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) refused, because this honor had been reserved by Allah Almighty for the Ansar. Then Sayyiduna Tufail (may Allah be pleased with him) and a man from his people migrated towards Madinah. That man fell ill and became distressed, or the narrator said a word to this effect. So he dragged himself to his quiver, took out an arrow, cut the veins of his neck with it, and died. Sayyiduna Tufail (may Allah be pleased with him) saw him in a dream and asked him: "How were you treated?" He said: "I was forgiven due to the blessing of migrating to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." He asked: "What is the matter with your hands?" He replied: "It was said to me: We will not set right what you yourself have ruined with your hands." The narrator says that Sayyiduna Tufail (may Allah be pleased with him) related this dream to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he supplicated thus: "O Allah, forgive his hands as well." And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) raised both his hands in supplication.
