حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيٌّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَدِمَ الطُّفَيْلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الدَّوْسِيُّ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ دَوْسًا قَدْ عَصَتْ وَأَبَتْ ، فَادْعُ اللَّهَ عَلَيْهَا ، فَاسْتَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَظَنَّ النَّاسُ أَنَّهُ يَدْعُو عَلَيْهِمْ ، فَقَالَ : ”اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِ دَوْسًا ، وَائْتِ بِهِمْ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that Tufail bin Amr Dosi came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! The people of the tribe of Daws have disobeyed and rejected (the message). Therefore, pray against them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards the Qiblah and raised his hands. The people thought that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to curse them. But he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! Grant guidance to the tribe of Daws and bring them to us."

Benefits and Issues:
Tufayl bin Amr al-Dawsi was among the prominent people of his tribe. After presenting himself in the service of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), he returned and invited his people, but they refused. Disheartened, he requested the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to supplicate against them. Instead, he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) supplicated for their guidance, and Allah, the Exalted, granted them guidance.
