It is narrated from Abu Nu'aym (may Allah have mercy on him), he says: I saw Sayyiduna Ibn 'Umar and Sayyiduna Ibn Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) making supplication; both of them would wipe their palms over their faces.

Benefits and Issues:
Raising the hands in supplication (du'a) and turning the palms towards the face is a Sunnah practice, which is established by many ahadith. However, there is no narration that reaches the level of authenticity regarding wiping the hands over the face after supplication. The chain of transmission for the aforementioned athar is also weak. The permissibility of this has been transmitted from some of the Imams.

Wiping the face with the hands after supplication (du'a) is absolutely correct.
The trustworthy Tabi'i, Imam Abu Nu'aym Wahb bin Kaysan, said:
I saw (Sayyiduna) Ibn 'Umar and Ibn Zubayr (radi Allahu anhuma); both of them, when making supplication, would wipe their faces with their two palms.
(al-Adab al-Mufrad: 609, and its chain is hasan; see my book: Hadiyyat al-Muslimeen, no. 22)
The criticism of this narration by some people is rejected because it is contrary to the authentication of the majority.
Imam Ma'mar bin Rashid rahimahullah (d. 154 AH) used to raise his hands up to his chest in supplication and then wipe them over his face. (Musannaf 'Abd al-Razzaq 3/123, no. 5003, and its chain is sahih)
Imam Ishaq bin Rahwayh considered acting upon those hadiths (in which wiping the hands over the face is mentioned) to be commendable. (Mukhtasar Qiyam al-Layl by al-Marwazi, p. 304)
