Hadith 597

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "From what has reached the people from the sayings of the previous prophets is this: If you have no shame, then do whatever you wish."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Modesty (haya) is a part of faith; therefore, whoever loses modesty is deprived of a major portion of faith. It is modesty that prevents a person from lowly actions and bad character, so if a person has no modesty left, then anything can be expected from him.
➋ Modesty was also a component of faith in previous religious laws (shari‘ahs), and among the morals that became part of Islam from earlier religions, modesty is foremost. In fact, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Modesty, in whatever amount it exists, brings nothing but good.”
