It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ashajj Abdul Qais (may Allah be pleased with him): "There are two qualities in you that Allah Almighty loves: forbearance and calm dignity."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ When the delegation of Abdul Qais came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), the members of the delegation rushed to meet the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Ashajj (radi Allahu anhu) made his mount kneel, removed the saddle, and then, with dignity and composure, presented himself before the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), upon which he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) praised him. ➋ These qualities were innate in Ashajj (radi Allahu anhu), however, they can also be developed within oneself through effort. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: ((al-‘ujlah min ash-shaytan)) “Haste is from Satan.” (As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Bayhaqi: 10/104, As-Sahihah lil-Albani, Hadith: 1795) ➌ It is permissible to praise someone in their presence if there is no fear that they will fall into self-admiration or arrogance, so that they may adhere even more to these qualities and give thanks to Allah.
