بَابُ الإبِلُ عِزٌّ لِأهْلِهَاChapter: Camels Are Honor for Their Owners
Hadith 575

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ أَبِي حَفْصَةَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: عَجِبْتُ لِلْكِلاَبِ وَالشَّاءِ، إِنَّ الشَّاءَ يُذْبَحُ مِنْهَا فِي السَّنَةِ كَذَا وَكَذَا، وَيُهْدَى كَذَا وَكَذَا، وَالْكَلْبُ تَضَعُ الْكَلْبَةُ الْوَاحِدَةُ كَذَا وَكَذَا وَالشَّاءُ أَكْثَرُ مِنْهَا.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: I am amazed at the matter of dogs and goats. Indeed, so many goats are slaughtered in a year and a large number are sacrificed as well. And a female dog gives birth to many puppies at one time, yet still goats are more than them.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Apparently, this narration seems to be related to the previous chapter, but it appears that Imam Bukhari rahimahullah wants to indicate that livestock should be raised in abundance.
➋ From this narration, it is understood that one should reflect upon the creation of Allah Ta'ala so that faith and certainty may increase.
➌ In terms of the process of reproduction, a female dog gives birth to more offspring, yet they are of no use, whereas despite goats being consumed more and producing less, their numbers are greater. This is evidence of their blessing.
