بَابُ الْكِبْرِChapter: Arrogance
Hadith 557

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلاَمٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَجْلاَنَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”يُحْشَرُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَمْثَالَ الذَّرِّ فِي صُورَةِ الرِّجَالِ، يَغْشَاهُمُ الذُّلُّ مِنْ كُلِّ مَكَانٍ، يُسَاقُونَ إِلَى سِجْنٍ مِنْ جَهَنَّمَ يُسَمَّى: بُولَسَ، تَعْلُوهُمْ نَارُ الأَنْيَارِ، وَيُسْقَوْنَ مِنْ عُصَارَةِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ، طِينَةَ الْخَبَالِ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The arrogant will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection in the form of tiny ants in the shape of men. Humiliation and disgrace will cover them from all sides. They will be driven towards a prison in Hell which is called «بولس». The greatest fire will surround them. They will be given to drink the blood and pus from the wounds of the people of Hell, which is called «طینة الخبال»."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Just as the nature of the crime is, so too will be the nature of the punishment. Since the arrogant person considers himself very great in this world, on the Day of Resurrection Allah, the Exalted, will disgrace and humiliate him, and he will also be made extremely small physically so that his humiliation is increased even more. Then they will be subjected to the most severe punishment of Hell and will lose all hope of salvation.
➋ "Bulus" is that level of Hell in which those who enter will lose all hope of ever coming out. And for drinking, they will be given foul-smelling blood and pus.
