Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ A human being is nothing by himself. Whatever he possesses is given by Allah, and it is solely His grace and favor. A person cannot claim entitlement based on his knowledge, deeds, or any virtue, because even that virtue is granted by Allah Ta’ala. Whoever considers himself great and is afflicted with the disease of arrogance will face the wrath and displeasure of Allah Ta’ala on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever incurs the displeasure of Allah Ta’ala will be cast into Hell.
➋ A person’s manner of walking and bearing reflects the state of his heart. If there is the greatness of Allah Ta’ala in the heart, then humility and modesty will be evident in one’s gait. If there is arrogance and pride in the heart, it will manifest in one’s manner of walking and behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid walking with haughtiness. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said that a man was walking with his lower garment trailing out of arrogance, so Allah Ta’ala caused him to sink into the earth. (Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Libas, Hadith: 5343)
Therefore, one should avoid arrogance and refrain from arrogant speech, thoughts, and mannerisms.
