It is narrated from Abu Anbas, may Allah have mercy on him, who says: I went to the land of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr, may Allah be pleased with them both, in Taif, and he related that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, folded his finger and gestured with it, and said: "The womb (rahm) is derived from the Most Merciful (Rahman). Whoever maintains it, Allah will maintain (connection with) him, and whoever severs it, the Most Merciful will cut him off from Himself. On the Day of Resurrection, it will have an eloquent and articulate tongue (with which it will plead before Allah)."

Benefits and Issues: ➊ From this hadith, it is understood how extremely cautious the hadith scholars (muhaddithin) were in narrating the sayings of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Abu Anbas rahimahullah narrated the hadith exactly in the place and manner in which he heard it. ➋ This provides guidance for teachers: they should, in addition to verbal explanation, also use hand gestures—especially when something requires practical demonstration for understanding. ➌ The meaning of "shajnah" is that the mutual connection between kinship (rahm) and the Most Merciful (Rahman) is like the branches that are joined together; that is, just as branches are interconnected, so too is the relationship between kinship (rahm) and the Most Merciful (Rahman). It is evident that whoever does not honor something so closely connected to Allah, how would Allah join him to Himself? ➍ The One who grants the power of speech to the tongue is Allah, the Exalted. He grants the power of speech to whomever He wills. Allah will also grant existence to kinship (rahm), and it will speak and complain before Allah. There is absolutely no need for interpretation (ta'wil) of this, because Allah is truly capable of doing so. ➎ "Rahm" (kinship) is derived from "Rahman" (the Most Merciful). This also indicates that the pleasure of the Most Merciful should be the sole objective in this matter. Although there may be other objectives in maintaining ties of kinship (silat ar-rahm), if the foundation is laid upon them, the relationship does not remain lasting. If the objective is the pleasure of Allah, then other objectives are attained automatically.
