It is narrated from Sa'id bin Amr (may Allah have mercy on him) that Hajjaj bin Yusuf came to the service of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and I was also present there. He asked: How are you? Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied: I am fine. Hajjaj said: Who wounded you? He replied: I was wounded by the one who ordered the carrying of weapons on the day when carrying weapons was not permissible, that is, Hajjaj himself.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
Hajjaj ibn Yusuf was the governor of Hijaz. For security purposes, he had permitted the carrying of weapons within the Haram. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma was traveling somewhere mounted, when the tip of a man's spear struck the sole of his foot, causing him a severe wound. Hajjaj ibn Yusuf came to tend to him and said, "Tell me about the person who struck you with the spear; we will punish him." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma replied, "It is you who struck me, because it was you who gave the order to allow weapons into the boundaries of the Haram."
