Hadith 525

Narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with them both) developed a fever. She says: I went to nurse them, so I said: O my father! How are you? And O Bilal! How are you? Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that when Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) would have a fever, he would say: Every person is told among his family, "May your morning be well," while death is closer to him than the strap of his sandal. And when Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) would recover, he would say loudly: If only I knew, will I ever spend a night in a valley where around me will be the grasses called Idhkhir and Jalil, and will I ever come to the waters of Juhfah, and will I ever see the mountains of Shamah and Tufail? Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: «اللَّهُمَّ حَبِّبْ إِلَيْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ كَمَا حَبَّبْتَ إِلَيْنَا مَكَّةَ أَوْ أَشَدَّ، وَصَحِّحْهَا، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي صَاعِهَا وَمُدِّهَا، وَانْقُلْ حُمَّاهَا إِلَى الْجُحْفَةِ» "O Allah! Make Madinah beloved to us just as You made Makkah beloved to us, or even more so. Make its climate healthy for us, and bless us in its Sa’ and its Mudd, and transfer its fever from here to Juhfah."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ From this hadith, the method of visiting the sick is learned. Also, a woman may visit a non-mahram (unmarriageable) man for illness, provided there is no fear of temptation (fitnah).
➋ The fever of Madinah was well-known. When the Companions (radi Allahu anhum) migrated to Madinah, they were greatly troubled by the fever and began to long for Makkah. Then the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) made the above-mentioned supplication, and the atmosphere of Madinah became pleasant.
➌ At that time, Juhfah was inhabited by Jews who used to plot against the Muslims.
