It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Visit the sick and participate in funerals. This will remind you of the Hereafter."
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ The meaning of ‘iyadah is general visitation, but later it became specifically associated with attending to the sick. Visiting the sick (iyadah al-marid) and participating in funeral prayers are obligatory (fard) duties upon Muslims; however, if some individuals fulfill these tasks, the obligation is discharged for the rest (fard kifayah).
➋ Attending to the sick highlights the importance of health, and a person gives thanks to Allah, the necessary result of which is preparation for the Hereafter. Similarly, by participating in funerals, a person is reminded of his own death.
