Hadith 505
عطاء بن ابی رباح رحمہ اللہ سے روایت ہے کہ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے مجھ سے فرمایا: کیا میں تمہیں ایک جنتی عورت دکھاؤں؟ میں نے عرض کیا: کیوں نہیں۔ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے فرمایا: یہ سیاہ فام عورت نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوئی اور عرض کیا: مجھے بے ہوشی کا دورہ پڑتا ہے اور میں بے لباس ہو جاتی ہوں، لہٰذا میرے لیے اللہ تعالیٰ سے دعا کریں۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اگر تم چاہو تو صبر کرو، اس کے بدلے میں تیرے لیے جنت ہے، اور اگر چاہو تو الله تعالیٰ سے تمہارے لیے عافیت کی دعا کرتا ہوں۔“ اس نے عرض کیا: میں صبر کرتی ہوں، پھر کہا: میرے کپڑے اتر جاتے ہیں، لہٰذا اللہ سے دعا فرمائیں کہ کپڑے نہ اترا کریں، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس کے لیے یہ دعا فرمائی۔
It is narrated from Ata bin Abi Rabah (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to me: "Shall I show you a woman of Paradise?" I said: "Why not." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "This black woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: 'I have fits of epilepsy and I become uncovered, so please pray to Allah for me.' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'If you wish, be patient and Paradise will be yours, and if you wish, I will pray to Allah to grant you well-being.' She said: 'I will be patient,' then she said: 'But I become uncovered, so please pray to Allah that I do not become uncovered.' So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed for her."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The name of this woman was Sa’irah Asadiyyah or Umm Zafar. She was Habashiyyah (Abyssinian) and used to comb the hair of Sayyidah Khadijah radi Allahu anha.
➋ From this, it is understood that being patient while being content with divine decree (qadar) and not seeking treatment is permissible; however, taking medicine is also permissible and is not contrary to reliance (tawakkul) upon Allah. To adopt means and then place trust in Allah is true tawakkul.
➌ There are four permissible matters regarding the treatment of illness:
* For the sick person to supplicate on his own for the removal of the illness—this is legislated in the Shari’ah.
* For another person to supplicate without being requested—this is also permissible.
* To request supplication from someone present in this world.
* To use medicine.
➍ Even after utilizing all these means, if the illness does not go away, a person should remain patient while hoping for reward, and should have certainty that the illness is better for him.
