It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah afflicts a Muslim with a bodily illness, then as long as he remains ill, he is given the reward of those deeds which he used to do when he was healthy. Then, if Allah grants him well-being, He gives him the ability to do good deeds before his death, and if He causes him to die, He forgives him." In another narration it is stated: "If He grants him recovery, He gives him the ability to do good deeds before his death."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The lifespans of the Ummah of Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) are short, but Allah, the Exalted, has made the days of their lives extremely valuable, and by His special grace, He has set the reward for every good deed as tenfold. Among these favors is that the reward for those deeds which a person was accustomed to performing in good health continues to be granted.
➋ Attaining the ability to perform righteous deeds before death is a very great matter. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: "When Allah, the Exalted, intends good for someone, He grants him 'asal (honey)." It was asked: "O Messenger of Allah! What is 'asal?" He replied: "He opens for him the door of goodness before his death, until those around him become pleased with him." (Silsilat al-Ahadith as-Sahihah, Hadith: 1114)
