It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty created the creation. When their creation was completed, the womb (rahm) stood up. Allah Almighty said: What is the matter? It said: This is the place for seeking Your protection from severing ties of kinship. Allah Almighty said: Are you not pleased that I will join the one who joins you, and I will cut off the one who cuts you off? The womb said: O Lord Almighty! Yes, indeed. Allah Almighty said: This has been established for you." Then Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If you wish, (for confirmation) recite this verse: «فَهَلْ عَسَيْتُمْ إِنْ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ أَنْ تُفْسِدُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَتُقَطِّعُوا أَرْحَامَكُمْ» [سورہ محمد: 22] "Then (O hypocrites!) is it expected of you, if you are given authority, that you will cause corruption in the land and sever your ties of kinship?"

Benefits and Issues:
➊ The Creator of all creatures is Allah Ta’ala, and even kinship (rahm) is a creation of Allah Ta’ala.
➋ From this, it is established that kinship (rahm) speaks to Allah Ta’ala and stands, and we will interpret this in its literal sense, because Allah Ta’ala is capable of granting it the power of speech. Furthermore, the virtue of maintaining ties of kinship (silat ar-rahm) is also understood from this.
➌ Allah Ta’ala has promised to join the one who maintains ties of kinship with Himself, and this is a very great honor. And He has warned the one who severs ties of kinship that He will cut him off from Himself, and there is no greater deprivation than this. The meaning of Allah joining someone with Himself can also be that Allah will take him into His protection and will not disgrace him.
➍ Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu) cited a noble verse (ayah karimah) in further support of the hadith, in which the importance of maintaining ties of kinship is mentioned. In this, it is explicitly stated that severing ties of kinship is tantamount to spreading corruption in the land. Furthermore, it is understood from this that a Qur’anic verse can be presented in support of a hadith.
It is also clear from this that, in order to determine a religious issue, it is not necessary to first look at the Qur’an and then the hadith. One can also seek the ruling from the hadith first, because both the Qur’an and the hadith are legal proofs (shar‘i hujjah).
