Khalid bin Rabee’ (may Allah have mercy on him) says that when Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) became seriously ill, the news reached his friends and the Ansar, so they came to visit him for his care in the middle of the night or close to the time of suhoor. Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What time is this? We said: It is the middle of the night or the time of suhoor. He said: I seek refuge with Allah from a morning in which there is entry into Hellfire. Then he said: Have you brought a shroud for me? We said: Yes! He said: Do not make my shroud from expensive cloth, because if there is good for me with Allah, I will be given something better than this, and if it is otherwise, then this too will soon be taken away from me. In the narration of Abu Idrees Khawlani (may Allah have mercy on him), it is mentioned that we came to him during a part of the night.
Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
➊ From this, it is understood that if a person's condition worsens at night, then it is permissible to tend to him at night itself; in fact, relatives and friends should arrive immediately.
➋ If a person thinks that after his death any act contrary to the Shariah will be committed, then he should prohibit it before his death.
➌ Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (radi Allahu anhu) was residing in Madain. He fell ill there, and the Ansar came to tend to him.
➍ A person near death should seek refuge from Hellfire and should have eagerness to meet his Lord and good hope in His Exalted Self.
