It is narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Saeed, who narrates from his father, that I was with Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him). He visited a sick person in Kindah. When he came to the patient, he said to him: Rejoice, for indeed the illness of a believer, Allah the Exalted makes it an expiation for his sins and a means of attaining the pleasure of Allah. And the illness of a sinful, wicked person is like a camel which its family has tied up, then released; it does not know why it was tied up nor why it was released.
Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
A Muslim’s illness becomes an expiation for his sins, and he examines himself to see which sin he has committed. He repents from it and changes his way of life in the future. In contrast, a disbeliever neither has hope for reward nor does he learn any lesson from it.
