It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When the believers will be saved from the Fire, they will be stopped on a bridge between Paradise and Hell. Then they will settle the wrongs they committed against each other in the world, until when they are purified and cleansed, they will be permitted to enter Paradise. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, they will recognize their homes in Paradise better than they recognize their homes in this world."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ There will be a bridge over Hell (Jahannam) which everyone will have to cross. People will traverse it according to their deeds. Some will become entangled in its hooks and be wounded, and some will fall into Hell. At the far end of the bridge, people will be stopped and retribution for their injustices will be taken. The oppressed will be given the good deeds of the oppressor, and some oppressors will be such that they will be thrown into Hell. Therefore, one must avoid oppression in every circumstance.
➋ The inhabitants of Paradise (Jannah) will recognize their homes because, prior to this, those homes were shown to them morning and evening. The statement of Allah, the Exalted, is: ﴿وَیُدْخِلُهُمُالْجَنَّةَعَرَّفَهَالَهُمْ﴾ (Muhammad: 6) “And He will admit them to Paradise, which He has made known to them beforehand.” May Allah, the Exalted, admit us to Paradise without reckoning.
