Hadith 481

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Three supplications are (surely) accepted: the supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of the parent against his child."

Benefits and Issues:
This hadith has already been mentioned previously on page number 32. Its benefits can be seen there. It should be remembered that if the oppressed person is a disbeliever (kafir), even then Allah, the Exalted, certainly accepts his supplication (bad du‘a). That is why the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) instructed to avoid the supplication of the oppressed. As for a father's supplication against his own children, one purpose of mentioning this could be that the father should be cautious when making such a supplication, because it may be accepted and the father may later regret it. Secondly, the children should strive to fulfill the rights of the father completely, lest he supplicates against them and the children fall into some trial.
