It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mughira bin Shu’bah’s (may Allah be pleased with him) secretary, Warad (may Allah have mercy on him), that Sayyiduna Mu’awiya (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to Sayyiduna Mughira (may Allah be pleased with him) asking him to write and send any hadith he had heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So he wrote: Indeed, the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite this supplication after every prayer: «لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له، له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير، اللهم لا مانع لما أعطيت ولا معطي لما منعت، ولا ينفع ذا الجد منك الجد» “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, He is One, He has no partner, to Him belongs the dominion, and to Him belongs all praise, and He is over all things fully capable. O Allah, none can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold. And the greatness of any great one cannot benefit him against You.” He also wrote to him: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) «قيل و قال» forbade it. Likewise, he forbade asking too much and wasting wealth. He also forbade disobeying mothers, burying daughters alive, withholding (charity) and asking from others.

Benefits and Issues:
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah’s objective is that making decorative designs and embellishments is extravagance and a waste of wealth, from which the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has prohibited and has warned of being questioned about it. Therefore, one should avoid such adornment and beautification. However, building solid (well-constructed) houses out of necessity is permissible, as has been mentioned in previous chapters.
