It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The Hour will not be established until people adorn their houses with decorations resembling embroidered cloths." Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) says: By "marahil" is meant striped cloths.

Benefits and Issues:
Near the Day of Judgment, simplicity will come to an end and, just as people adorn everything else, they will also decorate their houses with embellishments. In reality, this hadith applies to us today: to what extent we decorate our homes. So much money is spent on mere earth (i.e., houses) as if we are to live in these very houses forever. We should adopt simplicity.
