بَابُ التَّطَاوُلِ فِي الْبُنْيَانِChapter: Boasting in Construction
Hadith 449

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”لَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ حَتَّى يَتَطَاوَلَ النَّاسُ فِي الْبُنْيَانِ.“
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The Hour will not be established until people compete with one another in constructing buildings."

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Building structures according to the needs of the time is permissible, but extravagance and competing with one another in this matter are impermissible. Constructing a good house for shelter is not blameworthy. What is blameworthy are unnecessary palaces and mansions, such as when people consider it a matter of pride to build a mansion in every major city. Instead of wasting money on land, it should be spent on some act of goodness.
➋ In the Hadith of Jibril, competing in the construction of buildings has also been declared a sign of the Day of Judgment. It is as if this epidemic will become widespread. Today, if we look around us, we see exactly this situation.
