It is narrated from Nafi’ bin Asim (may Allah have mercy on him) that he heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) say to his nephew while they were leaving his garden (located in Ta’if): “Are your laborers working?” He replied: “I do not know.” He said: “If you were a Thaqafi, you would know what your laborers are doing, or you would be working with your laborers.” Then he turned to us and said: “When a man works with his laborers in his house or with his wealth, he is counted as one of the laborers of Allah Almighty.”

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ In the region of Ta’if, Sayyiduna Amr ibn al-As (radi Allahu anhu) had a vineyard which he had distributed among his children. Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Amr (radi Allahu anhuma) perhaps went to this very vineyard and inquired about it from his nephew.
➋ The intention of Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Amr (radi Allahu anhuma) was that assisting the laborers and working together with them is a sign of humility, which pleases Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) and is also a means of reward and recompense for a person.
➌ The people of the Banu Thaqif tribe were agriculturists, so it was mentioned that they are aware of what the laborers are doing, and they themselves also assist them, and this is a good quality.
➍ From this, it is understood that if the intention behind household chores is to attain the pleasure of Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala), then this too is a means of reward and is not wasted.
