Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ Whatever wealth is spent to fulfill human necessities, the servant receives reward for it, because fulfilling lawful needs is also obedience to the command of Allah. Similarly, a house and the like are also among the basic needs of a human being, so that a person may be protected from heat and rain. However, to exceed the limits in this and to compete with others is a sin, and the wealth spent in this way is not only devoid of reward and merit, but is also a source of misery. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: ((Amā innna kulla binā’in wabālun ‘alā sāhibihi illā mā lā, ya‘nī mā lā budda minhu)) (Sunan Abi Dawud, Al-Adab, Hadith: 5237) “Indeed, every building is a source of misery for its owner, except for that building without which there is no alternative.” ➋ With the passage of time, the style of construction has continued to change, and solid (permanent) houses have become a necessity for people. In such a situation, solid (permanent) mosques have also, by consensus of the scholars, been deemed permissible; however, it is extremely necessary to observe simplicity in this matter.
