Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said regarding the statement of Allah, the Exalted: «وَمَاأَنفَقْتُممِّنشَيْءٍفَهُوَيُخْلِفُهُ ۖ وَهُوَخَيْرُالرَّازِقِينَ»[سبأ: 39] "And whatever you spend, He will replace it, and He is the best of providers." He said: Its meaning is that there should be neither extravagance nor miserliness.

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues: ➊ The point is that even in spending in the way of Allah, one should adopt moderation. It should not be that a person gives (in charity) and then goes around asking (others for help). The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: ((Khayru as-sadaqati ma kana ‘an zahr ghina)) “The best charity is that after giving it, a person still remains wealthy.” ➋ In the same way, one should not act with miserliness such that where it is necessary to spend, a person does not spend even there, and greed and covetousness for wealth overcome the obligations.
