Hadith 442

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah is pleased with you for three things and displeased with you for three things. The three things with which He is pleased are: that you worship Him and do not associate anything with Him, that you all hold fast together to the rope of Allah, and that you give good counsel to the one whom Allah has appointed as your ruler. And He dislikes for you «قيل و قال» (hearsay, it was said, someone said, etc.), asking too many questions, and wasting wealth.”

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ Allah Ta’ala does not tolerate shirk (associating partners with Him) in any form. Therefore, one should worship Him alone with sincerity, such that only those actions are performed which He has commanded, legislated, and which He likes, and one refrains from whatever He has disliked or forbidden. Furthermore, in these matters, no one else should be associated with Him, such that the command of another is given the same status, nor should help and assistance be sought from anyone besides Him.

➋ The rope of Allah is the religion of Islam, and the foundation of the religion of Islam is the Qur’an. That is why it has been called the strong rope of Allah, regarding which the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said that one end of it is with you and the other end is with Allah. It is necessary to hold firmly to it. This is the central point of unity and agreement. The Ummah can unite only upon this. Unity upon anything else is not possible. Furthermore, its manifestation is required in collective life. It should not be that every individual acts upon it on his own, but collective life remains devoid of its effects.
➌ As long as the rulers do not commit clear disbelief (kufr), rebellion against them is impermissible. It is obligatory to bear their excesses and to wish well for them. The concept of opposition for the sake of opposition, as seen in democratic times, is not found in Islam. Today, if the rulers are not well-wishers of the people, then the people too are devoid of the spirit of obedience and goodwill. They take salaries from government institutions but do not perform their duties.
➍ Spreading every hearsay and transmitting information without verification is a highly disliked act. Similarly, excessive questioning without acting upon it, and wasting wealth, are also severely disliked by Allah Ta’ala. Further details have already been mentioned in the previous pages.
