Hadith 422

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in a marfu‘ form that (the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:) "The son of Adam has three hundred and sixty joints or bones. It is obligatory to give charity for each joint every day. Every good word is charity. A person helping his brother is charity. Giving water to drink is also charity, and removing something harmful from the road is also charity."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ The base of the fingers and the joints of the bones in the hand are referred to as "salamat" (soundness or joints), and then this term came to be used for all the bones and joints of the entire body.
➋ Giving charity on behalf of all the joints is obligatory, and every good word is also counted as charity. However, if a person performs two units (rak‘ah) of prayer after the sun rises, this becomes an expiation for all the joints. (Muslim: 1671)
➌ Providing water is the best form of charity. A prostitute gave water to a thirsty dog, and Allah, exalted is He, forgave her; so how great is the reward for the one who arranges water for a human being!
