Hadith 421

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: When a man says to his companion, "You are my enemy," then one of them goes out of Islam, or he becomes disassociated from his companion. Qais (may Allah have mercy on him) says that later Abu Juhaifah informed me that Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Yes, if he repents (then it is another matter).

Benefits and Issues:
Its explanation is found in another hadith narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Dharr radi Allahu anhu, in which the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: Whoever calls a man a disbeliever (kafir), or says, "Enemy of Allah," and he is not so, then this statement returns upon the one who said it, and he becomes as he described. (Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, Hadith: 433)

Therefore, one should avoid, as much as possible, giving such titles to others, because saying such things poses a danger to one’s faith.
