It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with her) that a man came to her and said: A man has spoken ill of you in the presence of Abdul Malik. She replied: If someone says something about us which is not in us, then sometimes it also happens that people praise us undeservedly.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
It is a weakness of human beings that they always want to hear their own praise and do not wish to hear anything about themselves that goes against their temperament. Sayyidah Umm al-Darda’ radi Allahu anha said to the one who was complaining: If someone has mentioned something bad about us, then what of it? It often happens that people praise us in matters for which we are not deserving. When a person listens to this, then he should also be able to tolerate criticism.
