It is narrated from Hisham bin Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both) was the governor of Makkah, while the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to keep birds in cages.
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
The chain of narration of this report is disconnected because Hisham did not live in the era of his grandfather Ibn Zubair radi Allahu anhuma. However, keeping birds and confining them in cages is permissible, as will be evident from the following hadith, provided that their food is taken care of.
