Hadith 382

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) camped at a certain place, and a man took some eggs of a dove. The dove came fluttering over the head of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he said: "Who has troubled her because of her eggs?" A man said: O Messenger of Allah! I took her eggs. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Out of mercy and compassion for her, return her eggs."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ The eggs of doves and similar birds are of no use to humans; therefore, to waste them and to disturb the birds is contrary to mercy and compassion. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) instructed that person to return the eggs to their place so that the distressed bird could be at ease. This contains a clear indication of having compassion for animals.
➋ As for those birds whose eggs are used for consumption, there is no harm in using them.
