It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever shows mercy, even to a slaughtered animal, Allah Almighty will show mercy to him on the Day of Resurrection."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
Allah, the Exalted, has created certain animals as food for mankind, and it is permissible to slaughter them for consumption. Slaughtering by the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) himself is also established. However, the one who demonstrates compassion and mercy towards the animal at the time of slaughter—even though he is taking its life—due to his merciful disposition, Allah, the Exalted, will show mercy to him on the Day of Resurrection.
