It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the truthful and trusted Prophet, Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), saying: "Mercy is only removed from the heart of the wretched."

Explanation & Benefits

Benefits and Issues:
The absence of mercy and compassion in a person's heart is evidence of his wretchedness, and he is not deserving of being shown mercy. The Prophetic instruction is:
((Irhamu ahl al-ard yarhamkum man fi al-sama')) (Jami' al-Tirmidhi, al-Birr, Hadith: 1924)
"Show mercy to the inhabitants of the earth, and the One who is in the heavens will show mercy to you."
