Hadith 373

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Qarra bin Iyas (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: A man submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, when I slaughter a goat, I feel compassion for it," or he said, "I feel pity while slaughtering a goat." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If you show mercy to the goat, Allah will show mercy to you." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said this twice.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
Allah the Exalted sent the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) as a mercy to the worlds, and he not only taught mercy and compassion towards human beings but also commanded mercy towards animals. He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) saw a man sharpening his knife in front of a sacrificial animal. He said: “Do you want to kill it twice?” (Al-Sahihah of Al-Albani, Hadith: 24)

Those who call Islam a bloodthirsty religion should reflect on the above statement of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). How could those who encourage mercy towards animals ever commit oppression against human beings? On the contrary, today the people of Europe are mindful of the rights of animals, but they kill human beings without restraint.
