It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: Whoever does not show mercy will not be shown mercy, and whoever does not forgive will not be forgiven, and whoever does not pardon others will not be pardoned, and whoever does not strive to avoid sin will not be protected from sin.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues: ➊ One should overlook people's slips while hoping for Allah's mercy and His pardon. For an easy life, it is necessary that a person develops the habit of forgiving others. The statement of Allah, the Exalted, is: ﴿وَلْیَعْفُوْاوَلْیَصْفَحُوْااَلَاتُحِبُّونَاَنْیَّغْفِرَاللّٰهُلَکُمْ﴾ (An-Nur: 22) “They should pardon and overlook. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you?”
➋ The more a person demonstrates humility and turns towards Allah, the more Allah, the Exalted, honors His servant. Therefore, when asking from Him, one should extend the hand of supplication with utmost humility. Also, any servant who wishes to abandon a sinful life and is sincere in this action, Allah, the Exalted, certainly protects him from sin and makes the paths of righteousness easy for him.
