Abu Al-Ajlan Muharibi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I was in the army of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both) when one of my paternal cousins passed away, and he had a camel about which he made a bequest that it should be given in the way of Allah. I said to his son: Give me that camel because I am in the army of Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both). He said: Take us to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) so that we may ask about the matter. We went to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and he said: O Abu Abdur Rahman! My father has passed away and has dedicated a camel in the way of Allah, and this is my cousin who is in the army of Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both). Can I give this camel to him? Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: O son! Indeed, every righteous deed is in the way of Allah. If your father made a bequest to give this camel only in the way of Allah, then when you see that a group of Muslims is fighting against the polytheists, give them that camel. As for this man and his companions, they are fighting on the path of their sons, each of whom wants his own command to prevail.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ From this, it can be gauged how strong the spirit of jihad was among the people of the best generations (khayr al-quroon), that even at the time of death, they remained concerned with the preparation of armies.
➋ In matters that arise, one should refer to the scholars so that the truth can be known, just as the cousin of Abu al-‘Ajlaan did. And scholars, too, should respond with wisdom and correctness, without any compromise.
➌ The fact that Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Umar (radi Allahu anhuma) called out “O my son!” is clear evidence that it is permissible to address a younger person as “son.”
➍ Fighting among Muslims for mutual power is not in the path of Allah (fi sabilillah). Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Umar (radi Allahu anhuma) considered this to be a tribulation (fitnah) in which participation is prohibited. Jihad in the path of Allah (fi sabilillah) is only that which is for the sake of elevating the word of Allah.
