بَابُ مَسْحِ رَأْسِ الصَّبِيِّChapter: Stroking the Head of a Child

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلامٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَازِمٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: كُنْتُ أَلْعَبُ بِالْبَنَاتِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَكَانَ لِي صَوَاحِبُ يَلْعَبْنَ مَعِي، فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا دَخَلَ يَنْقَمِعْنَ مِنْهُ، فَيُسَرِّبُهُنَّ إِلَيَّ، فَيَلْعَبْنَ مَعِي.
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that after marriage, I used to play with dolls in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and many of my friends would also play with me. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would come, they would run away out of shyness from him, so he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would send them back to me, and then they would play with me again.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ From this, we learn about the excellent conduct of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), as he was at the highest level of good character.
➋ It is permissible for girls to play with dolls so that an awareness of household matters may be developed in them. The scholars have permitted images of living beings in children's toys when there is an aspect of training involved. However, using images of dogs and other animals as children's playthings is nothing but imitation of the West and moral degeneration. This must be avoided as much as possible.
