Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when new fruit was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he would supplicate as follows: «اللَّهُمَّبَارِكْلَنَافِيمَدِينَتِنَاوَفِيمُدِّنَاوَصَاعِنَابَرَكَةًمَعَبَرَكَةٍ» "O Allah! Grant abundant blessings in our Madinah, and in our mudd and sa’ (measures)." Then he would give it to the youngest child present there.

Benefits and Issues: ➊ "Zahw" refers to that date which has begun to change color; then, this term is also applied to the earliest and new fruit. ➋ When any fruit would begin to appear, people would break off the first fruit and bring it to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) so that he might supplicate for blessing upon it. From this, it is also understood that when someone brings a gift or the like, it is Sunnah to supplicate for the one who brings it. ➌ From this, the virtue of Madinah Tayyibah and the Prophet’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) love for it is also evident—how much he loved Madinah Tayyibah. As a result of his supplication, even today there is more blessing in wealth in Madinah Tayyibah compared to other cities. ➍ Scholars should participate in the communal affairs of the people and supplicate for their goodness and blessing. ➎ The love and devotion of the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) is also praiseworthy, as they would give precedence to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in all their religious and worldly matters. ➏ When a person sees a new fruit, he naturally desires to eat it, but the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), showing selflessness, would give preference to children because they are more eager for it. This is evidence of his perfect compassion for them.
