Benefits and Issues: ➊ Children are innocent and free from evil; there is no malice or enmity in their hearts, and thus they are deserving of mercy and compassion. Through education and upbringing, they should be taught manners, and gentleness should be adopted in this matter.
➋ Elders have a right over the younger ones that, due to their advanced age, they should be honored and respected. Similarly, a person of knowledge should also be honored and respected. This is explicitly stated in a hadith (Musnad Ahmad). It is also necessary to honor a respected person of a family or tribe, even if he is younger in age. The Prophetic instruction is: ((إذَاأتَاکُمْکَرِیْمُقَوْمٍفَأکْرِمُوہُ)) (al-Sahihah of al-Albani: 1205) “When a noble person from a tribe comes to you, then honor him.”
➌ The phrase “he is not from us” does not mean that he is outside the fold of Islam; rather, it is intended as a warning and rebuke. However, if someone violates this hadith with contempt and disrespect, it is not unlikely that, as a consequence of this crime, Allah Ta’ala may expel him from Islam.
